NCH has 29 Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited programs and 35 additional medical and surgical graduate medical education (GME) programs. Surgical fellowship programs include adolescent bariatric surgery, minimally invasive surgery, pediatric colorectal surgery, pediatric dentistry, pediatric pelvic reconstruction, pediatric ophthalmology, pediatric orthopedics, pediatric otolaryngology, pediatric neurosurgery, pediatric plastic surgery, pediatric surgery, congenital cardiac surgery, and surgical critical care/trauma. In addition, NCH has teaching affiliation agreements with approximately 100 schools and educational programs that train more than 3,000 students each year.
The Chief Medical Education Officer and Designated Institutional Official (CMEO and DIO) occupies a pivotal position in our organization. The successful candidate will work closely with senior executives to achieve our organizational vision and support our values related to education.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The CMEO and DIO is accountable for all educational affiliations of NCH. The successful candidate will serve as the Designated Institutional Official overseeing 29 ACGME accredited and 35 other medical and surgical GME programs in partnership with The Ohio State University College of Medicine, Ohio University Heritage School of Osteopathic Medicine, OhioHealth and other healthcare systems. The position will also oversee medical student programs, residents who rotate from 33 institutional partners, a beautiful new 7,500 sq ft simulation center and a comprehensive, institutional maintenance of certification (MOC) portfolio.
The successful candidate will have at least ten (10) years progressive administrative experience related to medical education. A MEd degree is desirable, but not required. The ideal candidate will have first-hand experience as a training program director or DIO. It is essential that candidates be visionary, capable of defining and executing an educational strategic plan and assure that all accreditation, regulatory, and compliance standards are met. Effective communication and team-oriented leadership style is a must. Scholarship is expected. A small percent effort related to clinical work is expected.
