WittKieffer is pleased to collaborate with the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation (the Foundation) Board of Trustees as they seek an innovative and inspirational President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) due to the planned retirement in 2021 of the current CEO, Mark Mishek, after 12 years of service.
Based in Center City, MN, the Foundation is seen as the world's most trusted and comprehensive nonprofit organization that is singularly focused on providing healing and hope to individuals, families, and communities affected by addiction to alcohol and other drugs. The nation's largest treatment provider, the organization consists of 17 sites in nine states, offers a virtual presence, and includes a publishing house, graduate school of education, research center, and advocacy institute. The Foundation employs approximately 1,650 employees, has $200 million in revenue, and serves over 25,000 people annually.
This is a career defining role for an executive committed to excellence and innovation in the addiction treatment and recovery industry. The new CEO will be responsible for leading all aspects of the Foundation as the organization continues to build a new, transformative model for addiction treatment and recovery services in the 21st century. This individual will report to the Foundation Board of Trustees, working closely with the Board and the Foundation's executive leadership team to align goals and execute effective strategies on behalf of the communities served by the Foundation.
With a passion for and commitment to the highest quality of care for patients and their families, the CEO will embrace and personify the mission, values and highly-collaborative culture of the Foundation. This executive leadership position requires a dynamic, collaborative, visible, energetic and seasoned professional with extensive healthcare experience who appreciates the unique needs of a world-class addiction treatment and recovery organization and has empathy for those who are in recovery or are struggling for recovery. A personal connection to recovery will be a serious consideration as the Foundation Board evaluates candidates.
Prior experience as a CEO or an executive with extensive board interaction is preferred. Candidates must have a strong and successful track record in operations and strategic planning. Experience with multiple sites, healthcare delivery, distributive technology, virtual services, and philanthropy will all be beneficial. We seek individuals with strong emotional and social intelligence who have demonstrated an ability to connect with people in a meaningful way at all levels of an organization. Additionally, because of the visibility and national prominence of this position, the ideal candidate will have a capacity for effective public advocacy and will have demonstrated success as a spokesperson to donors, the public, news media, Congress, state legislatures and regulatory agencies, and local governments.
