Carondelet Health Network. A community built on care. POSITION SUMMARY Provides coordination of services to meet patients, families and staff's spiritual needs in a cost-effective manner. Participates in a collaborative process which assesses plans, implements, coordinates, monitors and evaluates options and services to meet spiritual needs.

POSITION DUTIES -Initiates pastoral contacts with patients and families and offer spiritual/emotional support regarding present illness and its impact on the patient�s life, i.e., able to identify and work with grief and loss issues. -Assists patients and families regarding religious, spiritual and cultural practices during their hospital stay. Includes identifying usefulness of religious rituals as part of the healing process. -Accompanies patients, families, as is appropriate in End of Life Care issues; working with issues of forgiveness, reconciliation, guilt, anxiety, etc. -Performs full spiritual assessments that are meaningful to patients and staff. -Ensures that patients, families and staff can access a chaplain and be able to have their spiritual/religious needs met. -Demonstrates ability to discern the spiritual issues of patients, their support persons, and staff, and to provide appropriate and effective support. -Demonstrates understanding of major bioethical principles, facilitates bioethical decision making. - Understands and articulates the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services. - Maintains confidentiality in managing information, re: patients, their support persons, and hospital staff. -Understands and utilizes principles of crisis intervention.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION Required: (from accredited institutions) Ordination and ecclesiastical endorsement by one�s religious superior. For Catholic priests, endorsement by the Ordinary of the Diocese. Preferred: Masters in Theology, Spirituality, Pastoral Studies or Master of Divinity. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION Required: Certification or pursuing certification in the Association of Professional Chaplains, National Association of Catholic Chaplains, or National Association of Jewish Chaplains, with 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education, or its equivalent. WORK EXPERIENCE Preferred: Prior experience in hospital ministry. OTHER/S Skills Required: Leadership; communication and teaching; organizational; interpersonal; team building and collaboration; spiritual assessment; interviewing; documentation; identification of potential risk situations or potential liability, flexibility for multi-site ministry. Preferred: Bilingual (Spanish and English) Knowledge Required: Quality improvement process, related health care practices and standards; knowledge and competency in providing spiritual care for patients of diverse faith traditions from infancy thru the geriatric population, current practices, issues and regulations involved in transition planning; spiritual aspects of health care; professional and regulatory standards Technology Required: Basic computer skills, personal technology tools, and awareness of current use of technology in related field. Preferred: Advanced computer skills, technology of the specialty.
