ChristianaCare is looking for an experienced Controller to join the Finance team. This position is responsible for the strategic leadership and oversight of the Accounting & Reporting Department and will ensure timely and effective decision-making for all Leadership levels in support of the Strategic Vision of ChristianaCare. The Controller will develop, coordinate, and administer ChristianaCare's consolidated financial accounting and reporting operations and provide expert insight regarding the financial performance of ChristianaCare.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure the accuracy and integrity of ChristianaCare's consolidated financial statements.
Advise the analysis and interpretation of financial information and aid in development of business operating plans. Work with the SVP of Finance to supervise operational plans and suggest alternative courses to meet financial expectations. Balance short-term and long-term strategic objectives to improve ChristianaCare's financial performance. Direct supervision and accountability for the Accounting & Reporting Department.
Oversee monitoring and reporting of the financial performance of ChristianaCare to identify trends and safeguard the assets of the organization. Responsible for interpretation of the financial results, analyze actual versus budget variances, and keep the SVP of Finance and CFO informed of significant events impacting the business performance of the organization.
Ensure accurate maintenance of financial records and compliance with finance and accounting standards, regulatory guidelines, and reporting requirements. Provide expert technical accounting understanding and leadership. Implement new Accounting Standards Updates (ASUs) issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and effectively and efficiently implement the new standards.
The Controller leads the annual external audit for ChristianaCare, and thus, reports into the Audit & Compliance Committee of the Board as needed.
Oversee Finance Department resource management to ensure achievement of expense management objectives and efficient and effective use of assets.
Develop an Accounting & Reporting team that enables the achievement of ChristianaCare's goals in a manner consistent with the mission and values of the organization.
The Controller actively participates and represents management during Finance Committee of the Board meetings. The Controller helps prepare the meeting materials and presents to the Finance Committee when necessary.
Controller engages and plays a key role with external consultant for the Defined Benefit Plan Audit (CCHS & HH), Defined Contribution Plan Audit (CCHS), and 403(b) Plan Audit (CCHS). Lead on financial matters pertaining to the Defined Benefit Pension Plan.
Responsible for the accuracy of Accounting & Reporting for acquisition and venture opportunities.
Responsible for all tax matters for ChristianaCare. This includes the filing of the annual 990 & 990T for Christiana Care Health System and all applicable entities. Keeping abreast of new IRS guidance. Works effectively and efficiently with our external tax consultant.
Serves as lead from Finance on the management and operations of the Christiana Care Insurance Company, including reporting to the Board of Directors of the Captive Insurance.
Assist in disclosures necessary to issue debt and to ensure compliance with annual bond covenants.
Proficient in Workday Financials. Strive for automation when applicable.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting required
Master's degree preferred
Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
Public accounting experience preferred
Healthcare financial or related experience preferred
Supervisory experience preferred
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted
