Coordinates the operation of the Medical Staff Governance activities of the corporate Medical Staff Affairs office. Oversees and monitors Medical Staff Committee activities to ensure physician compliance with the rules and regulations of federal and state agencies, DMC policies and medical staff bylaws. Maintains permanent records of annual and biannual medical staff elections for DMC corporate, DMC hospitals and clinical departments. Organizes and attends Medical Affairs meetings, including Executive and Joint Conference Committee meetings. Transcribes, distributes and maintains permanent files of minutes for each committee. Prepares Joint Conference Committee summary reports quarterly for the DMC Board of Trustees. Contacts medical staff members prior to expiration of term of appointment and initiates reappointment process. Accepts and processes requests to add/delete privileges and/or changes in staff status. Verifies information contained in medical staff applications and prepares credentials files for presentation to the credentials committee. Ensures follow through of applications to the appropriate individuals and committees. Maintains current knowledge of JCAHO standards and the regulations of other applicable federal, state and local regulatory and or accrediting agencies. Maintains current master copies of medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, policies and procedures, and medical staff roster. Provides input into policy development from a professional, technical or procedural perspective. As directed, provides input into procedure/protocol development, ensures compliance therewith and provides interpretation of procedural intent as requested. Monitors work flow and schedules staff accordingly. As requested, provides input on performance appraisals and personnel actions such as hires, fires, disciplines, etc.. Provides input into the development of immediate, daily and/or monthly goals and measures for area and compiles periodic unit/area performance data. Assists in monitoring budget. Monitors activities to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations JCAHO requirements, and DMC policies and procedures.
1. Associate's degree in business, healthcare or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Bachelor's degree preferred.
2. Three to five years progressively more responsible related experience, preferably in a large hospital environment. Leadership experience preferred.
3. Certification in Medical Staff Services (CMSC) strongly desired.
