About The Seleni Institute
The Seleni Institute is a nonprofit organization that destigmatizes and transforms mental health and wellness by addressing real-life issues that challenge the emotional health of women, men, and their families during the critical family building years. It was launched based on the simple yet powerful insight - change a mother’s life, change a child’s life.
Seleni helps people during what is recognized as one of the most stressful periods of their lives, addresses the global barriers to entry for therapy, and trains clinicians - thereby scaling access to mental health treatment around the world. Today, caregivers and particularly women, lack access to mental or emotional health care during their most vulnerable years. Social stigma, the lack of adequate resources to diagnose and treat mental health needs, and lack of awareness of the pervasive challenges faced by caregivers during family building years, are barriers to entry. While initially focused on supporting women, today Seleni supports women, men and families experiencing maternal mental health and family-building challenges.
Founded by psychologist Nitzia Logothetis and Chairman and CEO of the Libra Group George Logothetis, Seleni works to treat emotional health of caregivers to improve their lives, and in doing so supports the health and wellbeing of future generations. Seleni is working to close the gap between access and care, to break the stigma, and to change the conversation so that mental health is prioritized the same as physical health. This impact is exponential and cascades into the health of future generations.
Since it was founded in 2013, Seleni has been a recognized leader in treating, training, supporting, and advocating for the emotional health of women, caregivers and their families during the family-building years. It does this through a unique hybrid approach including a for-profit maternal mental health clinic that serves individuals and families in the U.S., and a nonprofit foundation that is conducting trainings and scaling mental health access around the world.
Today, Seleni’s NY-headquartered clinic provides psychotherapy services to women, men, and families experiencing maternal mental health and family-building challenges, from mild parenting stress and worry, to severe postpartum depression and anxiety, to the grief of losing a child. In addition to hosting over six thousand therapy sessions per year, Seleni’s clinicians have been featured in global media outlets including CNN, The Washington Post, WebMD, and the Wall Street Journal.
Seleni’s foundation provides evidence-based, CE-accredited maternal mental health trainings to help providers across the world properly diagnose and treat Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders as well as Perinatal Loss and Grief. Seleni trains over 650 clinicians per year and partners with front-line nonprofits to ensure its trainings reach those that are most vulnerable, shaping the lives of hundreds of thousands of families.
Selenis clinic gives Seleni renowned expertise in maternal mental health, while its trainings allow Seleni to scale its impact globally. Together, the clinic and foundation have a symbiotic relationship providing continual learnings that inform each practice. This unique approach allows Seleni to have an unparalleled and sustainable impact in the field of mental health and wellness.
