Position Mission
Northwell Health’s Department of Pediatrics is seeking a full-time, board-certified pediatrician to chair the Department of Pediatrics at Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH). We are seeking applicants with outstanding clinical and administrative skills who have a passion for leading and developing an academic pediatrics center of excellence.
The Chair will be responsible for oversight of hospital and ambulatory services at SIUH. The Chair will work collaboratively with hospital and health system leaders to develop and execute the department’s strategy to advance our clinical and academic missions. As such, the Chair will report both to hospital leadership, and the Northwell pediatrics service line. Responsibilities include clinician recruitment, education, supervision, strategic development, quality and process improvement initiatives.
As a leader, you will work to develop and expand comprehensive pediatric health services on Staten Island. As an innovator, you will identify and develop new clinical programs consistent with national best practices and care models, patient and community need and financial feasibility.
As an educator and mentor, you will support faculty career development and scholarship and create a culture and learning environment that supports the education programs. In addition, you will work with the Program Director to help the residency training program to set and achieve near- and long-term goals.

Additionally, we work hand in hand with our obstetricians to care for the over 3,000 newborn deliveries at SIUH each year.

The Zucker School of Medicine Pediatric Residency Program at Staten Island University Hospital enables residents to pursue their passion in pediatrics while developing outstanding clinical, academic and leadership skills. We strive to train residents to become excellent pediatricians. The curriculum and goals of the program are based on the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Competencies and newly developed pediatric milestones.

Candidate Qualifications
The successful candidate will ideally possess the following qualifications and experience:
Education and Experience
M.D. or D.O. degree, or equivalent, from an accredited institution (ACGME or foreign program that is similarly appropriately accredited)
Completion of a Residency in Pediatrics with Board Certification
Minimum of five (5) years of clinical practice in pediatric medicine and previous leadership experience
Must be licensed as a physician in the New York State
Experience in a leadership role in a Hospital department, preferably in a major medical center or health system, required
Understanding of inpatient and outpatient services
Continue to build and develop strong educational and training programs in pediatrics and its related disciplines while expanding knowledge in the behavioral health sciences through clinical research
Capabilities

The newly appointed Chair will be expected to achieve the following goals in the first twelve months of his or her tenure:
Earn the trust and confidence of the regional players and hospital leaders, administrators at each ambulatory location, physicians and staff throughout Northwell Health
Ensure high quality patient care through development and standardization of care processes and protocols, educational seminars, metrics, outcome measures and process improvement initiatives
Actively participate in physician recruitment and the development of growth opportunities
Identify growth opportunities and generate plans for departmental development
Participate in research projects (basic/clinical/applied) and advise fellows and house staff
